
The paper Influence of Wave-Induced Variability on Ocean Carbon Uptake, led by Princeton PhD student Paridhi Rustogi, has been published in Global Biogeochemical Cycles. Congratulations to Paridhi on her PhD graduation in May 2026. The study examines how high-frequency wind and wave variability, including wave breaking and bubble-mediated gas transfer, affects air-sea carbon fluxes and ocean carbon storage. The results show that wave effects introduce strong local and seasonal variability in carbon fluxes, with the largest impacts occurring during storms and in regions with persistent wave activity. These findings highlight the importance of including wave-induced variability in observations and models of ocean carbon uptake.
